Gay Freedom Band of Los Angeles: The Ol’ Song and Dance
Every piece of music, regardless of time period or style, can be categorized into one of two essential genres: a song or dance. “The Ol’ Song and Dance” is the GFBLA Concert Band’s heartfelt celebration of both of these timeless expressions.
Under the baton of Artistic Director Joseph Vranas, the Gay Freedom Band (GFBLA) of Los Angeles takes you on a journey through ancient tunes and lively jigs, beautifully reinvented by modern composers David Maslanka, Philip Sparke, Norman Dello Joio, and more. Hosted by emcee and musicologist, Candace Hansen, explore with GFBLA how songs can make you dance, and dances can make you sing!
The Gay Freedom Band of Los Angeles (GFBLA) is the second-oldest LGBTQ+ community wind ensemble in the world. GFBLA provides public concerts throughout Southern California, offering a wide repertoire of music ranging from classical to contemporary. The band focuses on providing a positive environment for everybody, enriching the community through music, and setting an example of acceptance and camaraderie among all people.
