Circa – Queer Histories Festival
One Institute is thrilled to bring back Circa, the nation’s first-ever LGBTQ+ History Month festival, featuring over 60 programs from queer artists, writers, filmmakers, activists, and community organizations. In our second year, we are excited to offer even more opportunities to celebrate our history, including two events to open the first week of the festival.
Our headlining exhibition, Our Patch: LGBTQ+ Life from Cradle to Grave, will feature never-before-seen materials from ONE Archives at USC Libraries. Following the exhibition, “Our Queerest Century: A Conversation with the Los Angeles Times” will explore the last 100 years of queer history featured in The Times’ recently published groundbreaking retrospective.
The festival will close with One Institute’s closing plenary, “The Future of Queer History: LGBTQ+ Writers on the Election,” a candid discussion about what’s at stake for queer people, life and culture, in the climatic race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.
Circa’s lineup of screenings, parties, and panel conversations include new and returning programming partners, including California LGBT Arts Alliance, writer and filmmaker Jireh Deng, Lambda Award-winning writer Federico Erebia, Gender Justice LA, NBC Out Editorial Director Brooke Sopelsa, and more.
